When choosing an embossed grain, use the photographs to choose the pattern, and compare feel and gloss on the physical sample. The same grain can look different depending on the size of the product and the cutting direction.
Find a grain to work from in the photographs
The emboss sample list lets you find a grain by code and inspect the shape at full size. Colour and gloss vary with the lighting when the photo was taken and with your screen, so colour is approved on the physical sample.
Check how the grain will sit on the product
The direction in which the pattern repeats affects how the finished product looks. Decide whether it goes on a small part or a wide panel, then look at the cutting direction. A drawing or a reference photo makes it easier to compare where the grain should sit.
Keep the approved sample and later changes apart
- Choose the grain code to work from and the product it is for.
- Confirm the material, thickness, colour and the backing fabric.
- Compare grain, feel and gloss on the physical sample.
- Keep the approved sample separate from anything changed later.
The codes in the list are references for finding a sample. Ask separately about stock, whether it can go straight into production, and the minimum order.
